What insurance does a type D visa require?

Unlike the short-stay visa C, type D requirements are set by each country. The common logic: you must be covered for healthcare from arrival until you join the local health system (French sécurité sociale, German or Spanish public insurance, and so on). Consulates generally require at least 30,000 euros of coverage over the first months; some ask for more, or for zero-deductible plans.
