The host can buy for the traveler

This is the most common setup: the relative in Europe compares, pays online and receives the certificate in the visitor's name, who adds it to their visa file in their country. No local card constraints for the traveler, and you keep control over the plan and coverage. Note that a host accommodation certificate (where required) and insurance are two separate documents: one proves lodging, the other covers healthcare, and both go in the file.

Age is the main pricing factor and some insurers apply heavy loadings after 60 or 70 while others stay moderate: this is the profile where comparing saves the most. Also check the coverage ceiling (above 30,000 euros is prudent for seniors) and the deductible (zero-deductible preferred).
